Engineering Directive for Permanent Concrete Barrier

MassDOT has issued Engineering Directive E-18-001, F Shape Concrete Barrier for Permanent Use.  This directive formally declares that the standard details for F Shape Concrete Barrier contained in the MassDOT Highway Division Construction Standard Details now apply to permanent installations of Precast Concrete Barrier only, and no longer apply to Cast-in-Place Concrete Barrier.
 
For active construction contracts awarded prior to issuance of this directive, contractors may continue to install any specified Cast-in-Place Concrete Barrier in accordance with the applicable contract plans and specifications.
 
This is the fourth in a series of Engineering Directives that are intended to bring all of our safety hardware components into compliance with the performance requirements contained in the 2016 edition of the Manual for Assessing Safety Hardware (MASH).
