Planning for the Impacts of Decriminalized Marijuana on CMV Safety

The legalization of Cannabis in some states has dramatically changed the landscape around impaired driving, which has impacted Commercial Motor Vehicle (CMV) companies and drivers. Darrin Grondel, Director of the Washington Traffic Safety Commission (WTSC), will present on the impacts of legalization on both CMV drivers and impaired driving in general and well as law enforcement and drivers licensing, from the Washington State perspective.

The webinar will include a global to local viewpoint on the following topics:

  • Cannabis Legalization
  • Important Definitions
  • Signs and Symptoms of Impairment
  • Crash Risk
  • Regulatory and Consumer Safety
  • Federal Preclusions for Drug Use by Commercial Driver’s License (CDL) Holders
  • Research and Data
  • Roadside Testing

Director Grondel will also discuss lessons learned, including information that would have been helpful before legalization was enacted in Washington.
