UMassAir 2017 Faculty Fellowship Program

Call for Applications

UMassAir invites applications from faculty and researchers within the UMass system to apply for the summer/fall 2017 Fellowship Program.

UMassAir Faculty Fellows will help to develop a work plan tailored to their expertise and aspirations for securing external research funding. Each fellow will receive technical training and/or support with Unmanned Aircraft Vehicle (UAS) data collection and/or processing and will enjoy a multi-campus interdisciplinary collaboration with other UMassAir Members.

Faculty fellows will meet regularly during the summer and fall semesters, attending UMassAir team meetings. Fellows will also have the opportunity to work in small groups and receive peer mentoring tailored to their engagement plan, as well as to present their research to our industry partners.

In addition to opportunities for skill development, networking and outreach, UMassAir Faculty Fellows may receive up to $1,500 stipend for their research account that will help to pay for technical training and support as well as data collection and processing.

Selection criteria include:

• Proposed UAS research with the potential for significant economic or scientific impact
• Commitment to apply for external funding during the fellowship period and beyond
• Demonstrated research record and ability to successfully complete project

1. One-page research proposal;
2. Potential external funding source(s), and
3. Information regarding type of support (monetary, technical, or training) you will need.
4. An abbreviated curriculum vitae

Review of applications will begin on July 1, 2017 and continue until funds are depleted.

Applications will be reviewed and selected by the program steering committee, and applicants will be informed about final selections no then one month after their application has been received by the Committee.

UMassAir is an interdisciplinary collaboration initiative established by researchers from UMass Amherst, and UMass Dartmouth, with the goals to serve as an incubator to develop new basic and applied research through access to unmanned aerial system (UAS) technology.
