02/07/2020

UMass Transportation Engineering Graduate Student Zhuo Han has been chosen to receive the Ernest T. and Rae N. Selig Transportation Program Fellowship. Zhuo will be working on an MBTA rail energy project. Zhou's advisor Dr. Jimi Oke added that this scholarship will be great for Zhou and help supplement the bookend months of the project funding for Zhou to continue his academic efforts.

The Fund is named in honor of the late Ernest “Ernie” and Rae Selig. Ernie was Professor Emeritus in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering within the College of Engineering. Professor Selig's focus was on topics within transportation engineering, particularly railroad systems. He completed his undergraduate work at Cornell University and his graduate work at the Illinois Institute of Technology. Professor Selig’s wife, Rae, also completed her undergraduate degree at Cornell University.

The purpose of the Fund is to provide financial support to a graduate student enrolled in the Department of Civil and Environmental Engineering whose concentration is in the transportation program. Additional consideration is based upon academic merit and financial need.
