BOURNE to BRAINTREE –The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) is announcing that the installation of new milepost-based signs for exits on Route 3 northbound will begin next week in Bourne and crews will proceed to install signs through communities along Route 3 northbound to Braintree. This work begins on Monday, December 7, and occurs during overnight hours each night, from 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the following day.

Exit Renumbering LogoMassDOT’s Statewide Exit Renumbering Project is converting all exit numbers on roadways, per Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) requirements. Interstates and roadways in Massachusetts have always previous to this project utilized a sequential exit numbering method.

Meanwhile, exit renumbering work is scheduled to begin along I-90 during the week of December 13, with crews beginning in Boston and working westbound to the border with New York. Then crews will work on I-90 eastbound from the New York border to Boston with approximately 2 weeks to complete work in each direction. Work is scheduled to take place during overnight hours, beginning at 8:00 p.m. through 5:00 a.m. the next morning.

Installation of new exit signs on Route 6 on Cape Cod will begin the week of December 13, with crews starting in Bourne and proceeding eastward to Orleans.  After eastbound installations are complete, crews will work on Route 6 westbound. Work will typically be completed during the overnight hours of 8:00 p.m. to 5:00 a.m. the next day.

All work is weather dependent and construction dates may be adjusted as conditions warrant.
