Crash Data Audit

UMassSafe was awarded a grant from the Executive Office of Public Safety and Security’s Highway Safety Division to conduct a crash data audit.  In order to improve crash data quality, UMassSafe is coordinating an investigation of police crash reports to assess current obstacles and future performance measures and monitoring criteria.  A team made up of representatives from law enforcement, MassDOT Registry of Motor Vehicles and Highway Division and UMassSafe is in the process of reviewing a random sample of crash reports for incomplete, invalid or inconsistent information.  This audit will advance the recommendations of the Commonwealth’s draft 2014 Traffic Records Assessment by both implementing recommendations made within the assessment as well as guiding implementation of other recommendations by assessing current police crash data and defining concrete performance measures for improvement.
