UMassSAFE Presents Teen Driver Data and Policy Information at Massachusetts State House

06/04/2016

On June 27, members of the UMassSAFE team presented findings from a series of research and data analysis projects focused on teen driver safety. The presentation, which included analysis using crash, citation, health care, and seat belt observation data highlighted the overrepresentation of teens in crashes and citations, and examined specific areas of overrepresentation including nighttime crashes, speed citations, and serious citations. In addition, data on the influence of vehicle occupants on the seat belt use of teen drivers was presented along with inpatient charge information for teen drivers considering seat belt use of time of the crash. Opportunities to strengthen Massachusetts current JOL policy based on national guidelines were also presented.
