Research Leads to New Book by UMTC Affiliate

Research Affiliate, O. A. (Sam) Elrahman, Ph.D.UMass Transportation Center Research Affiliate, O. A. (Sam) Elrahman, Ph.D., a Senior Research Scholar at Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute, has been studying the gaps between transportation services and public health, to help advance sustainability and societal health goals in transportation planning.

This research has led to the publication of his book, Transportation and Public Health: An Integrated Approach to Policy, Planning, and Implementation, a resource for current and future transportation professionals. Co-authored by Mike Meyer, Ph.D., of Parsons Brinckerhoff, the book draws on a wide range of fields from transportation, planning, engineering, health, management, economics and social and organizational psychology to illuminate the tensions in integrating multiple perspectives and balancing competing priorities.
