MassDOT Dive Team: Underwater Bridge Stability Inspections

Here’s something that many people may not realize: the Massachusetts Department of Transportation has a dive team. If there’s a bridge in the state that runs over any body of water three feet or deeper, the MASSDOT dive team is responsible for inspecting the structure. With more than 900 bridges in the state, that gives the DOT nearly one bridge to expect for every day for three years. Earlier this month, Connecting Point’s Brian Sullivan got a first-hand look at one of their routine inspections in Palmer.
