Complete Streets 303: Bicycle Pedestrian Network Planning
Course Description:
Building a robust bicycle and pedestrian network is key for a healthy community. So why is it when communities invest political and financial capital in some infrastructure, they still end up facing criticism that “no one uses it”? The most basic condition for people to walk and bike is they need to feel safe and they need to feel safe for the entire trip. This is where network planning is critical and why orphaned facilities fail to invoke serious mode shifts. This training will walk through the fundamentals of network planning for bicyclist and pedestrians and how it can help prioritize resources where the highest return can be created. The half-day training will include a presentation followed by an interactive network planning exercise in the classroom.
