NRMCA Exterior Concrete Flatwork Certification (Virtual)

This Certification program will provide the basic knowledge on best practices for placing and finishing concrete flatwork, typically exterior slabs on the ground, as well as current mix design and material technology. The goal of certification is to ensure that knowledgeable contractors are selected to install concrete slabs and minimize the potential for failure resulting from installation practices. This training is required as part of the new MassDOT concrete sidewalk specification (Section 701.61 – Contractor Quality Control Plan). The presentation will be followed by an instructional video of a start to finish concrete sidewalk placement covering best practice methods.

Participants who complete the above training will then be given a link to the certification exam through the NRMCA website. This is an open book exam that allows one hour to finish. The certification requires 70% or better to pass. Certifications do not expire.

There is no expiration of this certification.

The course runs approximately 3 hours including the exam.

Participants are encouraged to participate in front of their own screen with video on. If attending from the same room, please follow social distancing guidelines and be 6’ apart and wearing masks

  • Concrete Required for Exterior Flatwork
  • Placing and Finishing Concrete
  • Joints
