Course Description:
This course examines key design and operational considerations for roadway intersections with an emphasis on how thesecritical considerations influence safety for various users. As transportation agencies shift toward performance-based approaches to plan, design and operate their systems, an emphasis on practical and cost-effective solutions is critical. Intersections are inherently points of traffic conflict in the roadway system and are commonly a major challenge for addressing both safety and mobility challenges. At higher traffic volumes, intersections are typically the controlling factor for efficient operations and may become congested creating user delay, frustration, and potentially result in negative economic impacts to the area. This interactive course is intended for a variety of transportation professionals involved in the planning, design and application of traffic control devices at intersections.
