Calculations for Municipal Projects

This seminar will review mathematical concepts, useful in highway and DPW projects.

The course will begin with a review of calculator arithmetic, some Algebra, basic Trigonometry and Geometry and a brief introduction to Statistics, useful for quality control specifications.

We will then progress to solving as many applied problems as time allows.  The problems have been selected to represent as many different topics as possible, related to the Highway environment. Problem topics will include paving, grading, excavation, drainage, hoisting, distance, area, and volume, simple surveying, material testing, and standard deviation.

The solutions will be instructor led, with as much audience participation as possible. The participants should leave the class with a nice collection of solved example problems.
