Date: 8/1/2023 8:00 AM - 8/1/2023 12:00 PM

Location: Bridgewater Community Center

Overview

Description:

Retrofitting sites to incorporate additional stormwater treatment is becoming increasingly important for municipalities and other entities to protect water quality and meet stormwater regulations. Although there are several regulations requiring stormwater retrofits, this class will focus on the retrofit requirements in the Massachusetts Small MS4 General Permit. The class will provide attendees with an overview of the requirements and strategies for meeting them. Focuses will include how to choose the best site for retrofits, best practices for design, and tools to quantify the impact of retrofits in order to track progress towards water quality goals.

Learning objectives include:
1.   Review MS4 Permit requirements for permittees discharging to impaired waters
2.  Understand how to:
·       choose the best site for a stormwater retrofit
·       reconsider prescriptive/traditional design criteria in the retrofit scenario
·       use EPA's BMP performance curves to select and quantify the impact of BMPs
3.  Highlight additional strategies for enhancing a stormwater retrofit program
4.  Introduce the New England Stormwater Retrofit Manual, and learn how this manual can be used as a tool to support retrofits. (This manual was developed by the Southeast New England Program (SNEP) Network in conjunction with University of New Hampshire Stormwater Center, VHB, and EPA Region 1.)

Target Audience:

Engineers, designers, stormwater program managers, public works directors, others responsible for MS4 compliance or operation and maintenance of stormwater infrastructure.
