How I planned for my job at Uber even though it never existed before
Dr. Heather Rothenberg has been refusing to drive or ride in a car with anyone who isn’t wearing a seat belt since she was a kid. Today, she channels that childhood desire to keep everyone safe to lead Uber’s Trust and Safety research, standards, and risk teams. In this capacity, she combines existing research and state of the practice with innovative tools and technology to make Uber safer for everyone in the 400+ cities where they operate. Prior to joining Uber, she was the Director of Policy and Federal Projects for Sam Schwartz Engineering. She spent six years with the US Department of Transportation, working for NHTSA and FHWA, developing safety policy and conducting agency strategic planning. She has a PhD in transportation engineering from the University of Massachusetts Amherst and a Bachelor of Science in sociology and public policy. Some people thought that combination would never work for gainful employment…she’s been glad to prove them wrong. Dr. Rothenberg's talk will take place at the Gunness Student Center, Marcus Hall on Tuesday, November 8, 2016 at 3:45 pm, with a reception to follow.
