Designing Pedestrian Facilities for Accessibility

Do you want to learn how apply guidelines and policies to public rights-of-way? This course, developed by the Federal Highway Administration (FHWA), will provide an overview of the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA). The following areas will be covered: Background on the Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) Characteristics of pedestrians and the pedestrian environment Legal requirements; U.S. DOT and FHWA policies and funding opportunities Accessible design elements of the pedestrian corridor Accessible driveways and curb ramps Street crossings, including crosswalks, overpasses, underpasses, medians and islands Intersections, including roundabouts Pedestrian signs and signals, including accessible pedestrian signals (APS) Temporary facilities and construction site safety
