04/30/2019

Christopher J. Ahmadjian, associate director of the UMass Transportation Center (UMTC) in the College of Engineering, has been selected as the American Public Works Association’s (APWA) Donald C. Stone Award for Excellence in Education winner for 2019.

The award was established in honor of Donald C. Stone, founder of APWA, to recognize the achievement of individuals or chapters for their work in delivering educational opportunities in public works services.

Ahmadjian manages a variety of programs including the statewide Local Technical Assistance Program (LTAP), called Baystate Roads, which he has overseen for 26 years. In 2015, the UMTC adopted a ‘One Center’ approach. The One Center concept is a Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) program incorporating LTAP training, MassDOT specific training, MassDOT transportation research projects, the Mass Safe Program and two annual transportation-focused conferences.

The UMTC is responsible for promoting transportation research, education and training throughout the Commonwealth.
