Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) GIS Day
The Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Office of Transportation Planning (OTP) GIS team is happy to announce our upcoming 2025 GIS Day Conference! This event is an opportunity for members across the geospatial community to come together and celebrate the wide array of innovative projects, emerging tools, and groundbreaking research currently underway across the industry. Just as GIS acts as a tool to engage with the data that defines the world we live in, we invite you to attend this event to experience the full potential of GIS technology in this unique conference style format.
Meet the MassDOT GIS Team
Located within the Office of Transportation Planning, the GIS team has been responsible for the maintenance of spatial data files related to the state transportation network, disseminating data to MPOs and other agency partners, and coordinating the use of spatial data across the agency for over 25 years. Divided into data, development, and project delivery subgroups, this team has expanded to be MassDOT’s authoritative source of spatial data providing services across MassDOT divisions, business units, and beyond. The GIS team also provides open access to a wide range of spatial and other MassDOT data via GeoDOT and the MassDOT Open Data Portal.

Event Format
MassDOT will be celebrating GIS Day in an interactive conference-style format. Participating organizations, firms, and MassDOT departments will be encouraged to prepare tables where they can showcase emerging GIS tools in their respective areas of expertise. The goal being to allow participants and attendees to engage with the innovative work being done within the GIS community beyond traditional static maps or presentations.
The event will begin with opening remarks from MassDOT leadership, welcoming the geospatial community into our space and highlighting the importance of GIS within the agency. Following the welcome session, attendees explore tables, booths, and experiences provided by our public and private sector partners demonstrating each of their unique spatial analysis applications. To conclude the event, we will be hosting concurrent presentation sessions where MassDOT GIS and our partners will present our emerging spatial analysis tools and demonstrate their implementation within the broader transportation planning context.
