Course Description:
This training will facilitate a discussion between peer agencies on the challenges of public engagement and review tools for meaningful public engagement and strategies for discussing trade-offs on the value of complete streets projects with the public. The session will include small group discussions and exercises to explore engagement best practices. Attendees will learn about principles for meaningful engagement, strategies for communicating with different groups, and specific engagement tools.

    Principal Planner at Kittelson & Associates, Inc.
    Conor draws on his experience in urban planning, traffic engineering, and technical research in complete streets design. Conor is highly regarded for his ability to leverage transportation design to create livable and healthy communities. His focus is on improving conditions for walking and bicycling through better evaluation and design. Conor is a national leader in the planning and design of innovative bicycle facilities. He was involved in the development of both the NACTO Urban Bikeway Design Guide and the FHWA Separated Bike Lane Planning and Design Guide.
  • Elizabeth Tiwari
    Senior Planner at Kittelson & Associates, Inc.
    Elizabeth is a skilled transportation planner and community engagement specialist with a strong background in working with communities to implement complete streets principles. Her experience is built on her understanding of the relationships between active transportation infrastructure and community impacts. Elizabeth enjoys problem solving and seeks to incorporate sustainability and equity into all angles of transportation. Her experience includes parking management studies, bike and pedestrian safety analyses, bicycle and pedestrian level of comfort and network analyses, and using GIS analysis to assess complex questions.
