A Baystate Roads Public Works Academy?

01/27/2017

We at Baystate Roads are continually striving to improve the effectiveness of the training we provide to municipalities.

Toward this effort we are considering creating a Public Works Academy. The Public Works Academy would provide the basic fundamental technical skills and knowledge for individuals new to the public works profession. The Academy would most likely be held late spring or early fall, and would require each candidate to attend one class per week for 5 to 6 weeks.

Possible subjects being considered are:

• Professionalism and Communication Skills

• Work Zone Safety

• Flagger Certification

• Pavement Fundamentals

• Snow and Ice Operations

• Chainsaw Skills & Safety

• Trenching & Excavating Safety

We would like to know if the creation of the Public Works Academy would benefit your town and department.

The estimated cost for the six week program would be $375.00 per person.

Please take a moment to fill out our short questionnaire that should only take a couple of minutes to complete. We value the information you provide and will use it to improve our training in the future.

Development of an additional DPW Academy engineering/administrative track is also a future possibility being investigated.

Thank you for your time.
