Russell Tessier
Professor, and Associate Dean, College of Engineering
University of Massachusetts Amherst
Research and Background
My research is in the area of embedded systems, especially for transportation systems. Recent projects include the implementation of an automated pedestrian counter using video processing and the development of multiple portable road weather information systems (RWISs). My research works to integrate a wide variety of state-of-the-art digital components into new complete systems. New computer processing algorithms are used to collate data and extract important information. This processed data is then communicated to a centralized server. These practical systems are now in wide use in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts.
